Soil permeability

Hello,

I have been trying to implement a wadi into my model by modelling a negative levee. But the idea with a wadi is that the soil permeabilty is increased on the spot of the wadi and when modelling a negative levee, I only created a hole in the ground...

How can I increase the soil permeability on the spot where I created my negative levee?

Or is there a different way how I can model a wadi?

Look under Current Situation, for the Terrain Types. Find a Terrain Type which is suitable/similar to what you would need for a wadi, and draw it in the location where the soil should be changed. This should change the permeability sufficiently.

Alternatively, you could create your own Terrain Type, draw it in the location where the wadi will be, and change the infiltration attribute of that terrain type when preparing to draw your negative levee.

Notice that, as an example, if you want to calculate only the difference between a situation without and with a wadi:

• Calculate the project as-is, and note/save/download the results. This is your baseline.
• Change the terrain type to match that of a wadi
• Draw a negative levee to match the terrain height of a wadi
• Recalculate the project (if it hasn't redone so already yet), and note/save/download the results. This is your future scenario.
• You can now compare your saved baseline data with your future scenario data.

Terrain types are definitions of how the ground behaves. Oftentimes, the (sub)soil consists of a mixture of various types of material. Each individual material can be considered a type of terrain, the combination of materials can be considered a type of terrain as well.

Hey Tom,

in terms of technology this question is similar to one we've had before, regarding the creation of infiltration wells, which have the same challenges regarding soil permeability. Would the response provided there be sufficient for you to experiment with?

een van de mogelijheden voor waterberging is het creëren van een infiltratieput, waarbij je een gaat graaft tot aan een watervoerende laag met een hoge hydraulische conductiviteit, en dat gat dan volstorten met een goed doorlatend medium, bijvoorbeeld grind.
