Sewer_pump_capacity

Dear Tygron,

We configured a rainfall overlay with a dynamic rainfall event and a certain sewerpumpspeed for the whole model area.

The sewer capacity should be 7mm per hour for the whole area. We calculated the required pump speed in m3/s with mm/hour and the surface area of the model. the sewer storage is set to 0 mm.

As a test, we also simulated an overlay without any sewer capacity.

the problem when exporting and analyzing the results (max water depth), the water depth without sewer are lower than the water depth with sewer capacity. We are wondering how this can be. Should we set the sewer storage >0 for example?

    In your question you mention "sewer pump speed". "sewer capacity", and a "sewer storage". To prevent the risk of misunderstanding one another I want to start by listing the used terms. The sewer pump speed and the sewer storage are configurable attributes in the Tygron Platform. The "sewer capacity", you state as "should be 7mm per hour", which makes it sound like you use this to mean the capacity to let water flow through.

    You indicate that the sewer storage is set to 0mm. This would mean that the sewer has no room in it for any water at all, and would similarly inhibit water from being pumped out of the sewer with any sewer pump speed. It would be like opening a faucet to a pipe, but the pipe is not hollow to actually get any water through.

    That having "no sewer" and "a sewer with no capacity to do anything" would lead to different results is odd. I would ask you to double-check that that really is the only change made between calculations. For example:

    • No other hydrological feature or hydraulic structures added, removed, or changed?
    • No change to the boundry conditions, such as rainfall, evaporation, inlets/outlets, etc?
    • You are comparing the same result type, at the same timeframe, with the same number of timeframes?
    • The difference in water depth is significant? E.g. more than a mm?
